morning
crept underneath the door
the
sunlight stained the hardwood floor
though
unfamiliar with the place
i
recognized her sleeping face
was i
in heaven or in hell
for in
both places angels dwell
the
night prior there was fire
ignited
by our desire
but all
i heard were morning birds
announcing
daybreak with their words
and as
i listened to them sing
i
longed to have their feathered wings
to fly
away into the day
and
leave the angel where she lay
though
i didn’t say forever
i have
never been too clever
i see
a woman and react
with
flatteries i interact
i have
a hunger i can’t quell
and
now i know i was in hell
for as
i laid there by her side
watching
daybreak hit its stride
i felt
as empty as before
although
she was what i adore
i
slipped into the morning air
without
a note beside her hair
