another tavern

i guess one bar isn’t enough to service all of l. a.

the waitress is very pretty

and to her i’m sure i’m just another drunk

she doesn’t need to be groped by my words

my words have no political agenda

just a desire to raise social consciousness

and yet it is the politically minded

i always seen to offend

but you know i don’t believe

that it matters what you believe

only what you do

do you think that young woman

with two young kids

who asked me for spare change

cared that i don’t believe

in eternal rewards

i rented her a room for a week

stocked it with dry goods

gave her the address to an agency

which might be able to help

and bus fare to get there

then i walked away

into a night so dark

it exist without shadows

and found this tavern

and the pretty waitress

and the juke box rendering

wake up!

by rage against the machine

and i’m just another drunk

who knows

that time is measured

by rotation and revolution

and

when no more celestial exist to spin

time will no longer be measured

and by absence of the action

time will no longer exist

so waitress bring me another

we may say it’s good

to love our brother

and drinking in excess is bad

but when our sun glows

in its final throes

and its expansion encompasses the earth

donations or drunkenness

won’t have meant a thing

beyond what it

affects right now
