the
homeless person on the streets
is
walking to a different beat
suspicious
eyes as we despise
a
life that’s filled with compromise
what
can we do, the me and you
that
barely even make it through
the
day to day with bills to pay
to
try and make it our own way
i
do not know nor can disclose
this
problem that’s out of control
what
can we do, just me and you
how
much can a few dollars do
a
single meal will never heal
twelve
million l.a. can’t conceal
and
you can bet that some are vets
who
fought for my poetic fret
and
nursery rhymes at christmas time
where
with good cheer we spare a dime
not
looking here to shame or blame
just
resolutions with a name
i
do not know yet i perceive
should
it be part of liberty
to
do nothing more than complain
when
inconvenienced by their pain
avoidance
will not make them go
when
every year their numbers grow
their
tents on freeway overpass
no
longer even make us gasp
i
feel as helpless as they are
barely
enough to gas my car
to
get to work to keep at bay
their
life that’s one paycheck away
just
me and you, what can we do
i
do not know, how about you
