the harlequin of harely quinn

she ran the sea at twenty-three then took over the sky

she danced just like a windswept leaf that violently blew by

butterfly biscuits barely bake unless you baste and burn

by the time she turned forty-two love’s lessons she had learned

so many guys had come to lie with grace before a meal

but once their flesh was satisfied dessert did not appeal

i came along and wrote her songs, reciting poetry

but weary wounds from all the wrongs would not let her believe

she said i was a harlequin so i looked up the word

a jester who seeks his own ends, not some romantic nerd

but i obsessed, yes without rest as beauty makes me do

and oh the beauty she possessed had left me tried and true

for poetry poured out of me and slowly wore her down

she kissed me on a sunset beach with flowers for a crown

i wrote “beauty” in the wet sand which waves all washed away

said, “i’ll still be holding your hand even when beauty fades”

she took a flower from her hair said, “they’re forget-me-nots”

and placed it between both her breasts, a coquette flowerpot

mirror, mirror

let me explain in this refrain the way you make me feel

your beauty’s driving me insane till it is an ordeal

i want to dance in a romance to music of your kiss

the lyrical lines of your face will harmonize in bliss

i’m mesmerized and hypnotized each time i hear you speak

i’m looking straight into your eyes and all i feel is weak

the pillars of creation in the eagle nebula

are oracle oblations offered for your retina

for even beauty is surprised each time you come in view

and knew all was a compromise before there was a you

mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all

whoever asks the answer will be with who i am enthralled

making rainbows out of stars

boredom beckons when i will write

unless i write of your delights

as long as i am where you are

i’m making rainbows out of stars

searching for songs i sing along

where love is right and never wrong

heart aflutter, always stutter

poetry is where i utter

eloquence of magnificence

where all your beauty is condensed

into words scribbled on pages

calling you the war that wages

between my heart and all my art

when really all i want to start:

my love for you is all you see

till all you do is cling to me

          *

transcendent

all the style of your smile

and your laughter without guile

layers longing within the lines

where i am lyrically inclined

to unfasten all the laces

liberating all your graces

for the freedom of my fingers

living in a lasting linger

and when they leave my lips replace

where my fingers softly traced

and end their journey on your lips

and with a sigh i slowly slip

inside of you attending to

the places that my fingers knew

with hands that roam without protest

and end their journey on your breasts

which i treasure in the pleasure

of ecstasy without measure

          *

sunburned lips

i’m told the waves all need the moon to beat upon the shore

reminding me how my heart beats for beauty i adore

i wish that we could travel to the center of the sun

for it is there i’d show to you just what your kiss has done

to every corner of my heart burning with desire

as explosive as our sun that’s constantly on fire

illuminating landscapes in the levels of my mind

every scene a field of green which you water in kind

quenching with your kiss the thirst your beauty will create

soaring fire of desire i only can equate

with temperature intensity that’s forged within our sun

your beauty is a burning light which is second to none

ocean poem

with all my words i cannot do

anything else but write for you

like water flowing to the sea

these words which are inside of me

will fill until this ocean poem

covers the surface with each rhyme

till every where all that i share

about your beauty and the air

being all i will ever need

i’ll cause the waters to recede

so we can walk along a beach

your lips are never out of reach

with sunshine or a cloudy day

within this moment we will stay

while waves which crash after the crest

will write poems of your loveliness

and sweep them back into the sea

this ocean poem inside of me

will fill each page with even flow

i’ll drown within the undertow

surrounded by flawless beauty

explicit in my poetry

notify me

i sent a text that was bereft of any self-control

i checked my phone then checked again hoping you would console

you said, “i’m running errands, but could meet me at the park”

i drove and waited for your car just slightly after dark

you pulled your car up next to mine i quietly got in

i didn’t even say hello just kissed you on a whim

the kissing escalated into sex in your back seat

we didn’t even say a word till shoes returned to feet

how all the groceries in your trunk you needed to get home

i kissed your cheek and grabbed my keys and watched your bumper chrome

trail into the tail lights till i couldn’t tell who’s who

i texted you, “i love you” you responded right on cue

          *

the playground of your lips

although the sun had touched the sky with visions of the dawn

cumulus clouds all occupied and caused us both to yawn

and say, “instead let’s stay in bed and linger in the sheets”

we pressed together for the warmth which comes from body heat

but as i lay there looking at the beauty of your face

i caught fire with desire, fingers began to traipse

the skin upon your lips and cheeks that i began to kiss

my hand conformed to your breast’s form, you sighed without remiss

you moved on top and took control of when your lips touched mine

you pleased then teased while savoring how i had lost my mind

my hands in need that tried to feed you forced above my head

i surrendered as you rendered where i would now be led

although i know the time disclosed were seconds as in few

it felt like an eternity each time your lips withdrew

i whispered every word i know about a love that’s true

you said you’d be all i now need, but what’s in it for you

i promised you a universe no one could deliver

your next kiss was so passionate i began to shiver

you took control body and soul redefining lust

and when you finally set me free i crumbled into dust

          *

the list of longing

the words i sing within a song

with melodies which play along

all harmonize into a list

that’s always topped by laughing lips

and followed fast by your embrace

and beauty breathing on your face

within each song i’m kissing you

and singing of a love that’s true

for reasons other than your beauty

though often that inspires me

for i have never seen such

such beauty that i long to touch

and every grace of your embrace

leaves me with longings to replace

the moments when we are apart

with all the words within my heart

for every moment just to be

the moment when you’re kissing me

          *

resume

although i spent all yesterday writing nine poems for you

you were the first thought of this day and so i start anew

with poems about your beauty wrapped around your tender charms

where i can think of nothing else but being in your arms

holding you tight both day and night where we kiss and caress

all my fingers gently linger touching with tenderness

cause and effect you take my breath and give it back again

i am obsessed till nothing’s left but wanting to begin

another kiss, another touch, a lingering embrace

my fingertips with tenderness traipsing across your face

perfection found within the sound of you and i as one

we always will begin again and yet never be done

take the time to die within her arms

my lyrics lavishing the lines describing how i feel

could never find the perfect rhyme to properly reveal

the beauty dancing on your skin that’s swaying in my arms

i tremble and assemble your captivating charms

influencing my poetry as we dance cheek to cheek

and as you move your lips to mine i find i am too weak

to write another word about expectant ecstasy

just let me die amid the sighs suffocating breathlessly

          *

words woven from the fabric of love

your beauty has inspired me

to endless aching poetry

all else be damned, i’ll hold your hand

barry white would understand

why nothing else i’ve ever felt

could never ever make me melt

into a puddle filled with love

till all that i am dreaming of

becomes the kiss upon your lips

the world lost in an eclipse

where day is night and night is day

your beauty is the only way

the sun will find a path to shine

warming even the divine

          *

joined at the hip

kiss me now i don’t know how

to wait for winsome wedding vows

i need your breath upon my flesh

to hear you sigh as both your breasts

become the knowledge of my hands

and lips that finally understand

the reason why they do exist

and with my hair within your grip

i will be soft but none-the-less

i will conjoin us flesh to flesh

and leave my whispers in your ear

that i will always hold you near

so when God takes one of us home

we’ll be as one, never alone

          *

screaming lyrics

“you put all of your faith in her

but one day she may not prefer

your lips over any other

you’ll crash and burn, beyond recover”

i scream extreme, “it’s all worth it!

i’ve never kissed such supple lips

beheld beauty without adjunct

intoxicating punch drunk love

for a moment or forever

let me enjoy this endeavor

eternal bliss from just one kiss

who could ever ask more than this

peerless beauty beyond measure

one caress, i’ll always treasure!”

          *

placed perfectly between your arms

in places where the sun won’t shine

a shadow you will always find

where light has never touched this spot

this was the placing of my heart

but when your arms enveloped me

the dance of shadows came to be

a one act play that was cancelled

love rushed the stage, quickly trampled

the set and all the scenery

the darkness without greenery

and painted worlds without shadows

even winter warms the meadow

till all’s marinated with love

illuminating from above

shadow less rose without a thorn

my heart’s forgotten how to mourn

          *

don’t let the day take you away

though the hours have passed tonight

i’ve done nothing but hold you tight

for awhile you fell asleep

i prayed the Lord my soul to keep

in this moment of atonement

i cursed the day and employment

which will require i release

your fragile form of perfect peace

flowered beauty in full bloom

night is ending all too soon

make the day go far away

in your arms i want to stay

play “unchained melody” on my heart

the very moment that we part

write a sequel with no equal

a hymnal for love’s cathedral

          *

pâté

if for a pumpkin then a pie

the ancient poets often lied

when saying fairest of them all

was who with whom they were enthralled

but any coast on any sea

from origins of all poetry

have never seen the way you look

which makes me fill this very book

a beauty fair, beyond compare

with any woman any where

at any time or century

your beauty and my poetry

would make the poets all re-write

confessing that they’ve seen the light

if beauty were a banquet feast

all else have dined on what is least

          *

what you do to me

when you are near i melt just like a snowflake in the sun

i want to whisper in your ear that more than anyone

i love you like the birds that celebrate the coming day

how you inspire every word my poetry portrays

a breathless song to sing at dawn with eyes and hands upraised

just like a saint whose love i paint with poetry of praise

for the beauty of your heart housed in immaculate flesh

i think of you and all you do and write my words afresh

inspired by your beauty all the words ceaselessly sing

with poems heartfelt the snowflake melts and resurrects with wings

          *

portrait of paradise

you let me share my love for you in words with poems and songs

a joy and privilege to convey just where my heart belongs

for beauty that unfolds into the fabric of your face

cut for design and then aligned by majesty and grace

and every time i gaze upon God’s perfect paradise

that radiates upon your face i know that no one’s wise

who doesn’t see or long to be the one who woos your kiss

is blind to how our deity bestowed us with your gift

for nothing in this universe resembles like you do

the image of his paradise that now is shining through

your flawless form that God adorned in effort to depict

salvation’s found within your arms and on your lissome lips

the wish for the pluralized kiss

“you’d think that people would have had enough

          of silly love songs

i look around me and i see it isn’t so

some people want to fill the world

          with silly love songs

          and what’s wrong with that

          i’d like to know

cause here i go again…” – paul mccartney

i look at you and all i do is dream about your kiss

our lips welded by the passion that we cannot resist

himeros in a breathless state as we take center stage

proclaiming such desire was unseen in any age

the origins of such passion are unique in its birth place

germinated at the moment which i beheld your face

and called upon the erotes for grace from the divine

perennially i’d know your kiss if they would make you mine
