the curve of a woman’s back

o.k. i couldn’t do it

hitchhike across america

 

it took 3 nights of catching rides

and walking to get to vegas

 

rolled in with the rising sun

got a room, a shower

and slept

 

when i woke i bought new clothes

and roamed the strip

traveled all that way just to do

what i do in los angeles

 

but all i really did

was notice women

evening dresses

jean shorts

tight tops

 

after one night there

i caught a cab to the airport

took a plane to l.a.x.

took a cab home

retrieved my cat

and called jenny on the phone

 

she didn’t make me pay for my mistake

just seemed grateful

i was not only back

but that she and i are back together

 

her only request is we move out

of the studio apartment

and into a place big enough

for us and our soon to be born child

 

we’ve been going around looking

where ever she wants is fine with me

my only insistence was we stop

at my favorite taco vendor
